The Publishing Story: She Had No Regrets

Julia Duerler and her husband, Jeff, tragically lost their daughter Kayla at the age of 16 in a car accident. After her passing, they wanted to take some of Kayla’s writings, sketches, and other media content and put it together in a book format. Julia pulled together this content and tied it together by her own writing. Then she reached out to us to help her publish this unique book.

Specific Services We Provided

Julia wanted graphic design help to digitize and format her daughter’s art, handwriting, and other media and put it together into a book. We helped her with:

  • Total project management
  • Transforming high-resolution scanned images from Julie into print-ready files
  • Cover design (we used a photo Kayla had taken and designed a cover around it), interior design and typesetting, and eBook formatting
  • Listing on Amazon
  • Consulting on creating a new publishing imprint called Pluvial Press

Our project manager worked closely with Julia throughout the process, providing her guidance at every step toward publishing on August 4, 2020.

She published a book that is now available around the world as a memorial to help readers be inspired by Kayla’s life.

We appreciate the incredibly unique art and aesthetic of this book. What an amazing treasure that readers get to see Kayla’s drawings, read her handwritten thoughts, and hear stories about her beautiful life.

We also appreciate Julia’s kind endorsement: “YouPublish made my dream come true! The team designed a book that reflects the creativity and excellence of our daughter. Throughout the process, they welcomed my ideas and revisions. I am pleased because She Had No Regrets is reaching a greater audience than expected.”

More About the Book

From the back cover

An inspiring, visual memoir that fuels hope and purpose.

“The world just lost a treasure, and they never even knew her,” whispered her mother in that terrible moment when she faced the reality of her daughter’s fatal accident . . . but that is not how it played out.

In She Had No Regrets, author Julia Kay Duerler weaves together compelling journal entries, personal reflections, stories from friends, photos, and artwork to share this treasure with you.

Kayla, also known as “Skye Marie” to the online world, was a bright, creative, and dedicated girl who fit an entire lifetime of accomplishments into sixteen years. Her primary goal in life, though, was not success or popularity. As Kayla’s writings make clear, she wanted Jesus to shine through everything she did.

This book gives you access to Kayla’s mind and heart. You will see where she found her identity, how she understood her place in the world, and the ways she valued relationships. Practical insight and an eternal perspective can be gained from this spiritually discerning child of God. As people have said, “She was wise beyond her years,” and, “She was made for heaven.”

Get to know Kayla for the treasure she was—and still is. Let her show you what it can look like to live with no regrets.

“’Remarkable’ is an understatement. Kayla Duerler’s profound wisdom and stunning approach to life is nothing shy of transformational. The world needs to know Kayla.”

Aaron Shust, Singer/Songwriter

“This lovingly woven account is a call to be the people we were meant to be, to love more fully, and to live with an eye towards eternity. This isn’t a grief memoir. It’s a guide for living well.”
